~ 2009 ~

Sea Mountain in the southern area, a 5 minute walk from the Black Sand Beach in Punalu'u
Feathered visitors near our patio, and weird ducks on the golf course walkway
Cool tree roots along the golf walkway (left); view of an older green caldera or cinder cone from the driveway to Sea Mountain (right)
The shore from Sea Mountain, but on an overcast, "voggy" & drizzling day

Strange crabs on the lava rock

We hiked a couple miles south/southwest along the shore, even though the weather wasn't the greatest
Besides some great views, there were interesting altars
And surfers making attempts in the next bay, but they didn't perform for me
Graveyard (left) above the short walk to the Black Sand Beach
Freshwater pond behind the Black Sand Beach (left); our heart-shaped Ahi for dinner that evening (right) :)
Heading the other direction from Sea Mountain to Ka Lae,
or South Point
Windmills un-maintained on the way to South Point which is the most southern latitude of the U.S.

Boats without power need to tie up to these or they'll drift to Antarctica

On the road to Lava Tree State Park (love these trees!), east of Pahoa
Interesting depth formations...
More interesting formations, at least 10 feet high...

Surfer dude at one of the parks east of Pahoa

Reflection along the path we walked near the surfers

Our last night in Kona, visiting Judy at the Kanaka Kava bar, and dining at Quinn's delicious restaurant, owned by Diane & Noland from Green Bay, WI (of course, Packer fans :))

~ 2010 ~

From our lovely condo this year at Sea Mountain rented from a private owner, not the nice "timeshare" from last year, but much more flexible & private :) Also more images of our "yard visitors" and of the resort shoreline

The Green Sand Beach near South Point. Without 4WD, a 4-mile RT hike from the road

Below: Turtles catching rays on the Black Sand Beach and offshore, also 2 images from shore

~2011~

More views from our turf at Sea Mountain

~2012~

Another turtle at Black Sand Beach (left); views from Highway 11 between Na'alehu and Sea Mountain (right)
Back road from Na'alehu to Pahala
Kawa'a Beach down the road from our condo at Sea Mountain, a nice short walk
Not a swimming beach but maybe for surfer dudes (see in 2009 where we watched from above on one of our hikes from Sea Mountain)
Religious structure on the way to the beach, a local home & historical board

Cute crab near our turf

West of Whittington Beach down the road from us (the waves splashed my camera) Click here for a video of these cool waves
